RAW

Join a growing number of businesses that are wasting less and saving more.

The Recycling at Work project provides free waste assessments to businesses across the region. An expert consultant will:

  • measure your business’s waste and recycling
  • tailor an action plan to your needs
  • give practical advice on how to save on your waste bills, increase recycling and improve your environmental footprint.

It can be difficult and time consuming to find a way to save money by reducing, reusing and recycling your business waste, rather than paying increasingly higher costs for waste disposal. To date more than 7,000 businesses have benefited from free waste assessments across NSW using the Bin Trim tool designed by NSW EPA.

The Recycling at Work project has 200 free waste assessments available to businesses across the SHOROC region and is kicking off in the Pittwater area from September 2015 to March 2016. It will then move progressively through Warringah, Manly and Mosman areas over the following 12 months.

To get involved or find out more contact Ian Mackay, Recycling at Work Project Officer on 0418 602 114 or email recyclingatwork@shoroc.com.

Background
NSW businesses send more than 2.5 million tonnes of waste to landfill each year and the costs are increasing rapidly. The good news is that more than 70% of this could be reused or recycled, reducing business costs. Small to medium sized businesses generate around 45 per cent of the business waste. Reducing business waste makes good business sense and saves valuable water, energy and raw materials. By reducing the demand on raw materials you can lessen the impact on the environment and reduce purchasing and waste disposal costs in your business. You can even boost your green image. The NSW Government is targeting a 70 per cent recycling rate for business waste by 2021.

Businesses assessed under the program may also be eligible to apply for funding under the Bin Trim Rebates program that assists eligible businesses purchase equipment to enhance their recycling capacity. Funding from $2,000 to $25,000 is available to eligible businesses to cover up to half the costs of equipment. Further information on the Bin Trim Rebates program can be found at epa.nsw.gov.au/wastegrants/bin-trim-rebates.htm

This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
