An open letter to all State and Federal Members of Parliament seeking their public commitment for the funding of Bus Rapid Transit systems, road upgrades and a new Northern Beaches hospital was published by the Mayors of Manly, Mosman, Pittwater and Warringah councils on behalf of the 273,000 residents of the SHOROC region.

The letter, which was published in the Manly Daily on 30 October and in the Mosman Daily on 4 November, is straightforward in its appeal for funding and requests a public response from both sides of government.

“Our councils have created a roadmap for the future and we’re getting on the front foot to get the result we so desperately need for the residents of Sydney’s Northern Beaches and North Shore” said Mayor of Mosman and SHOROC President, Anne Connon. “It’s critical for the future of our region that we receive the funding we need to roll-out this visionary plan” said Mayor Connon.

“The letter directly asks the State and Federal MPs to step up to the plate and publically support and commit to implementing the priorities outlined in the Shaping Our Future strategy.”

The key priorities for funding outlined in the letter are:

  • Public transport: Bus Rapid Transit systems for faster public transport from Mona Vale to the City and from Dee Why to Chatswood, Ryde and the City.
  • Roads: Fixing the choke points on our congested roads.
  • Hospitals: Immediate construction of the new Northern Beaches Hospital and retaining and upgrading Mona Vale Hospital.
