Why does the 182 Bus stop at Elanora Heights and not continue to Monavale so we (Northern Beaches residents) can commute to St Ives, Pymble, Chatswood, the Bus can then turn and go back. Ingleside is left in the dark.

Thanks for your comment Mr Leeder. SHOROC agrees 100% and our policy is that Mona Vale Rd should be a dual-lane carriageway (ie. 2 lanes both ways) for its entire length. The SHOROC Mayors, particularly the Pittwater Mayor, have been advocating for this for many years. We will pass on your comments to the RTA which is the organisation running the consultation and doing the road planning. Regards, SHOROC

Biggest problem with the entire assesment is that you have not included one of the most important parts needed to be upgraded, the first hill on Mona Vale Rd from the round about at Ponderosa Parade. This needs to be doubled As well!!!!!

Comment on the Manly Daily site in regard to this issue today:

Jenny Dowell writes: "We've had the same 3 bin system in Lismore for about 5 years- it works
really well. We've reduced the amount of waste going to landfill and
have low contamination rates. The green waste bin accepts all kitchen
scraps including meet- people can use newspaper or free 'biobags' to
wrap food. With landfill State costs currently at $33 per tonne and
rising to $88, it's financially responsible to reduce materials going
into the ground too."

Manly Daily 24 August 2011: Better bus network underway
         by Bryn Kay

Planning has officially started on the NSW government’s proposed Bus Rapid Transit network for the northern beaches.

The announcement from NSW Treasurer and Manly MP Mike Baird came after last month’s revelation that the travel corridor from the northern beaches to the city was the slowest morning CBD commute in the country.

On Monday, Mr Baird said plans for the network, which would see high-frequency services running from Mona Vale into the city, were now “no longer just words, it’s action”, after the Treasurer joined NSW
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian in meeting Shore Regional Organisation of Councils board members.

The organisation is represented by mayors and general managers from Manly, Mosman, Pittwater and Warringah councils.

“I think it’s exciting news that work is now underway,” Mr Baird said.

“It’s hard not to be excited about the opportunities a Bus Rapid Transport Network could bring to the northern beaches.

“At the same time we need to do the work for it properly and not rush
into anything that is not properly considered and consulted.”

Mr Baird revealed that a pre-feasibility report is due by February.

HI Mr Warr
Thank you for your comments.
As part of the Shaping Our Future strategy, the councils of the SHOROC region agreed that the East-West trunk route for the Bus Rapid Transit between Dee Why, Frenchs Forest and Chatswood was a key priority for investment.
As part of the Mayor-led campaign for this funding, this East-West route has been promoted as a major priority and has been included for investigation as part of the NSW Government’s feasibility study into the Bus Rapid Transit system for our region.
You can find our more on the priorities and how this campaign is progressing at http://shoroc.com/2011/public-transport-roads/

HI Mr Warr
Thank you for your comments and your interest in this report.

Absolutely our region has the worst traffic congestion in Sydney – in fact it is on record as having the slowest and second slowest comment in Australia.

That’s why the councils have all agreed on the need for investment in our transport infrastructure and the Mayors, including the Warringah Mayor Michael Regan, are leading a campaign to secure this investment from the state and federal governments.

Our agreed priorities include a new Bus Rapid Transit system across the region, with major truck routes from Dee Why to Frenchs Forest and Chatswood, and from Mona Vale to the CBD.

As a result, the new government has commenced a major feasibility study into the Bus Rapid Transit system for our region. You can find our more on the priorities and how this campaign is progressing a thttp://shoroc.com/2011/public-transport-roads

Last night (18/8/2011) we had a lengthy meeting with Mr Peter Robinson (Urban Design Forum) - not to be confused with his namesake in Warringah Council's Strategic Planning Services Unit. In attendance were a number of Warringah esidents/Ratepayers/Activists.
Peter Robinson has just completed an Urban Sustainability project for SHOROC - being
the Councils of Warringah, Pittwater, Manly & Mosman.
In summary
the points he made last night were:
1. The northern beaches peninsula has the worst traffic/transport congestion in Sydney and the slowest road journey to Sydney CBD
2. We are lacking in Tertiary Education facilities and our TAFE has been downgraded
3. Compared to other parts of Sydney we should have 23 kms of rail lnes & at least 9 train stations for our current population
4. The Warringah areas best serviced by public transport are Dee Why/Brookvale & Forestville
5. Suburbs like Narraweena whilst they have basics services centres do not have adequate transport to justify high density development
6. He talked about the need to have rail link from Brookvale/Frenchs Forest/Chatswood
from a long term urban design planning point of view
We invited Peter Robinson to come to our Group's meeting with Brad Hazzard on 10 September 2011.

This is good news. Are the SHOROC councils also going to discuss the benefit of all four Councils working together to develop a unified suite of sustainable living programs for our community. These would take the place of and improve on programs currently run by the Councils for community and business development - energy efficiency, water, and waste. Im sure we could achieve more with a unified approach where resources were pooled. Graeme ph 0419 495 178.
