2010 "Best Film" "Best Script" "Best Editing" "Best Comedy" and "Best Cinematography" winners Pat Feary and Rhys Bennett
The very popular 24/7 Youth Film Festival calls on young up and coming filmmakers to take up the 24/7 challenge – that is to make a 7 minute film in 24 hours. The collaborative project between Mosman, Manly, Warringah, and Pittwater Council’s encourages all young people aged 12-24 to express and explore their culture through the art of film.
The 24/7 Youth Film Festival won an award at this year’s Local Government Cultural Awards 2011 in the category of Cultural Industries. Organised by the NSW Local Government & Shires Asociations to help support the arts in NSW, the Local Government Cultural Awards enable councils from around NSW to enter the Awards under six categories; Aboriginal Cultural Development; Cultural Industries; Cultural Infrastructure; Integrated Cultural Policy Implementation; Library and Information Services and Programs Projects and Partnerships.
As part of the 24/7 Youth Film Festival, participant teams are required to include a range of specific items, themes, locations and dialogue lines into their film which are revealed at the commencement of the 24 hour period. The festival incorporates a series of skills development workshops which enable young people with little to no film making experience to take part in the festival. Additionally the festival supports a team of young people with disabilities in developing a short film through a new initiative called “Reelability”.
All of the participant films are screened at local cinemas and a gala awards night is held annually to showcase the top ten films created making the 24/7 Youth Film Festival one of Australia’s leading Youth Film Festival’s.
Congratulations to the talented local filmmakers who put together four thought provoking and engaging short films that can be viewed here.
