Manly Council :: Collective Artistic Expression Celebrated in Manly’s ‘Frameworks’

PANCHALI SHETH Mundra, 2010

The work of eight members of the Northern Beaches based ‘The ARt Tree’ artists’ collective is to be featured in Manly Council’s innovative ‘Frameworks’ art spaces – eight permanent ‘frames’ creating an ‘outdoor gallery’ along Market Lane in Manly’s business district and at the Manly Art Gallery & Museum forecourt on West Esplanade Reserve, close to Manly Ferry Wharf.

The Frameworks outdoor gallery spaces will show the work of the The ARt Tree, ranging from sensitive environmental landscapes, to ‘Indian’ abstract expressionist art, to environmental assemblage, to delicate still-life studies, to impressionist photography amongst other genres, from 18 March to 21 August.

The exhibition will be launched at Manly Art Gallery & Museum at 6pm on Friday on 18 March.

High resolution images of all eight artworks, with detailed captions, are available online.

The ARt Tree was the brainchild of two artists Vanessa Chaperlin and Rachel Carroll who saw the collective as an opportunity to unite Sydney Northern Beaches artists who would otherwise work in professional isolation, allowing them instead to network, gain new skills and to gain a wider audience.

The ARt Tree collective now numbers 23 creative artists, exhibiting most frequently at the Mary Place Gallery annually as well as taking part in the Manly Arts Festival and the Manly Jazz Festival.

The artists whose work features in the Frameworks exhibition which is displayed on the facade of the Manly Art Gallery and Museum and in Market Lane opposite Manly Library are Rachel Carroll, Panchali Sheth, Vanessa Chaperlin, Cheralyn Darcey, Leonel Sanchez Sanchez, Cade Turner, Jenni Barrand and Ceasius Kakius.

You can view their website at www.thearttree.com.au.

An Artists’ Talk by the participating artists will be underway at Manly Art Gallery & Museum from 3pm, Sunday 3 April 2011.

Manly Art Gallery & Museum is open free to the public at West Esplanade Reserve, Manly (10.00am-5.00pm, Tuesday-Sunday. Ph: 9976 1420. www.manly.nsw.gov.au/gallery)
