E-waste options for SHOROC residents

Residents of Manly, Mosman, Pittwater and Warringah council areas are able to drop off up to five items of e-waste for free at Kimbriki, Terrey Hills.

Details: The Computer Technologies for Schools project facilitates
donations of surplus computers and information and communication
technologies (ICT)
equipment for use in schools throughout Australia. To Donate
a Computer: fill out the form on the website or email Mark on
ctfs@edna.edu.au for further details. They should be Pentium
4 or above. They currently have a high demand for computers
for NSW
schools. With that sort of a need, there’s little reason why
acceptable working computers should end up in landfill. They
accept both computers from both businesses and individual residents.

2. Re-sale, swap, ‘Freecycle’ etc

Organisation: Freecycle Pittwater Group
Details: It’s free and only takes a minute to register. Make sure
you describe your item exactly (working or not working –
some people are still keen to take the non-working items and
fix them), and give your location/suburb.
Freecycle: The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,766 groups with 6,879,629
members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely
non-profit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff
for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out
of landfills.
Membership: free, and everything posted must be FREE,

Organisation: ReUse It
Details: Our goal is to find new uses for unwanted items that would
otherwise be thrown into the trash. The primary benefit is that
it reduces the amount of reusable items that end up in the trash
with a secondary benefit of reducing the overall amount of items
thrown into landfills.

laptops, photocopiers and printers. Minimum $40 for a non-Dell
pick up. TVs can also be processed.

Details: Asset Recovery Services Programme accepts any manufacturer’s
printers, scanners, fax machines, personal computers, servers

Details: You can bring unwanted Toshiba Notebooks (including batteries)
to a Toshiba MobileCare or ProCare Service Centre in Australia.
Just fill in an Equipment Disposal Agreement and then drop off
your equipment in the recycling bin in the lobby and we will
take care of it at no charge. For your nearest drop-off point,

or call 13 30 70. If you are in an area that does
not have a collection point, you can even post your equipment
to us (along with a completed Equipment Disposal Agreement)
and we will take care of it. Please note: a handling fee will
apply if you drop off or post a non-Toshiba Notebook. This covers
the cost of shipping and recycling.
Pick Up Service: Want us to pick up your old equipment? If you prefer, we
can arrange a courier to collect your equipment. To cover pickup,
shipping and recycling, we will need to charge a flat fee of
$10 plus $13 per item in metropolitan areas or $16 if you are
more than 40 km away from your capital city (credit card payments

They have only just started and only offer a drop off facility

disabled and people in need who get Wesley packages. They wipe
the hardrive and have a reporting system. In recycling the e-waste

Printer Cartridges: The voluntary extended producer responsibility
program called ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ is supported
and funded by seven of Australia’s leading print manufacturers.
All types and brands of printer cartridges are accepted for recycling.

You can now drop off your used or empty laser and inkjet cartridges
at participating Australia Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Tandy,
Dick Smith Electronics and Powerhouse outlets. This is a free service.
